Julia

Julia, girlfriend of Philip, owns an art gallery on Union Square. She is twenty-seven, successful, and very intelligent. She projects strong commitment and loyalty to her friends, with emotions and perceptions that run deep. She is a strong-willed woman, with a soft heart, and desperately wants Philip to ask her to marry him.

Philip

Philip, an attorney for a bank in the financial district, is thirty-two, strong and physically fit. He is very career-oriented, and has always capitalized on his good looks to move up the corporate ladder. He is extremely confident, even-tempered, but oftentimes impresses people as being a bit too pompous. He must make the painful decision to leave Julia in his search for true love.

Veronica Vidal

Veronica Vidal is a twenty-nine year old actress from New York. She is currently in the city for six months in a Broadway show on Union Square. She is a voluptuous beauty, something of a vamp, but a gifted and talented stage performer. She is melodramatic both on and off stage, easily provoked when things do not go her way, and has a hot temper. It is these qualities that appeal to Philip, who eventually falls in love with her.

Gino Vanelli

Gino Vanelli, Veronica’s agent and long-time lover, is thirty-seven, Italian and from New York. He is smooth, suave and debonair, with a flair for expensive European-cut suits, gold jewelry, and fast cars. Gino is quite a womanizer and seducer, but deep inside he hopes to find happiness with one woman, someone like Julia.

Michael

Michael is thirty, gay and the manager of the St. Royale Hotel on Nob Hill. He is a close friend and confidante of Julia – and had always disapproved of Philip. He believes Julia could be happier with another man. Michael is generous, funny, enjoys entertaining, good food and wine, and hosts his friends for a week at the hotel to escape the loneliness that continually haunts him.

Daniel

Daniel is thirty-two, a former lover of Michael, and a college friend of Philip. He and Philip are business partners of the Euro Club, a dark, seductive yet elegant private restaurant-club. Daniel realizes that Veronica makes his friend very happy and encourages and supports their love affair – although he himself has secretly fallen in love with Philip.

“And I'll dance until the stars slowly fade to darkness and the moon turns to cheese. How clever? Am I a romantic fool or what? No - I think I'm just in love…”

  • Julia

I didn't care about the pain and the heartache and the tears. That I could deal with. What I couldn't handle was the reality. The fact that I had lost at the game of love.”
